Although there is enough money to keep social security going for another couple of decades, a few minor tweaks will allow it to stay solvent long term. Things are not dire in this area – one of the few. They will have to keep edging up the age for benefits. It is already 67 for me. For my child it will probably be 70. But life spans have increased by more than that over the years.

At least until now. The average life span is starting to reduce. It was just announced that half of Americans will have diabetes in the future. This grim outlook may have a positive affect on the social security funding as people won’t live as long. But the will add significantly to the funding required for Medicare.

More people seem to be suffering from migraine headaches. They can be debilitating. A migraine is an enlargement of the blood vessels around the brain. A migraine can activate the sympathetic nervous system which can lead to nausea and vomiting.
Blurred vision and sensitivity to light are also symptoms. There is usually an intense, pounding pain and it is usually affecting one side of the head. The location can change during the next attack.
The best approach is to avoid your triggers. Common triggers of migraines include: stress, bright lights, cigarette smoke, alcohol, cheese, chocolate, monosodium glutamate, nitrites and caffeine.
Steps you can take include; going to bed at the same time every night, exercise, limit stress and caffeine, identify foods that may be your triggers.

What has worked for you in dealing with migraines?

A Professor of Nutrition received a lot of attention recently by eating a diet of Twinkies and other “junk” food and losing a lot of weight in the process. He claims his numbers improved as well. His point was he lost weight because he was consuming more calories even if they were bad calories. The first thing I noticed was that this expert in nutrition was 27 pounds overweight eating “healthy foods” prior to his experiment. A lot of people seemed to think this was their green light to go back to junk food. That would be a scary message from a Nutritionist.

Several books now say it is best to avoid grains (especially whole) and oats etc. The thought is that people weren’t meant to eat these because they developed recently in time. That may be why Celiac’s and other diseases are grownig quickly. Most diet plans are pushing the consumption of these and they are a major part of the government food pyramid.

Is it true, as documented in Time magazine and several recent research papers, that exercise does not help you lose weight? In the 60′s if you told your doctor you wanted to lose weight, the doctor’s first piece of advice was to stop exercising and rest more. That was the common belief until one person changed the concept in the early 70′s. It has become ingrained as the prevailing belief ever since.
